Establish a sense of urgency
Kotter:
'..50% of transformations fail in this phase.'
'..without motivation, people won't help and the effort goes nowhere.'
'..75% of a company's management should be convinced of the need.'
Upset the status quo, for example use the results of customer satisfaction surveys to show that things must change...


Our TIP:
A good question to ask is 'What if we do nothing?'. The wise change manager wanting to motivate people into action should say to them 'this change is very important, let me put it another way if it doesn't work you're all fired!'.
This usually works for us.
