The fortress of Jaisalmer rose like a mirage from the desert.  Coming closer, it was as if we had travelled back in time - straight into the fairy tale of 1001 nights.

Centuries ago Jaisalmer's strategic position on the camel train routes brought it's townspeople enormous wealth which they spent on building beautifully carved palaces and temples in golden-yellow sandstone.
