Hi all,

Below you will find my comments, and actions taken, after the latest 
holiday escalation on the mailing list:

*) The list is intended as a means to request and distribute information, 
relating to the (STOCK or modified) Suzuki RG500.
*) Criticsim can be information. 
*) Packaging of such information is a very important aspect on a mailing list.
*) Arguments and opinions do not automatically become "evidence" just
because they are sent repeatedly to a few hundred people.
*) Mailing list discussions are not a means to establish "the truth".
This is a limitation of mailing lists that must be accepted, and it
implies that many forms of discussion are only appropriate in private
group mails.

( A general tip: If you have trouble judging whether the contents and 
formulation of your message are appropriate for the mailing list, then 
try to imagine how your message would appear to a hypothetical journalist 
or hypothetical Suzuki factory engineer subscribing to the list or
browsing a future automatic mailing list archive on the site. )

I have taken action against individual subscribers who presented their 
arguments in an insulting manner, several of whom have received a warning and 
one of whom has been removed from the list after ingnoring previous warnings. 
Since this member has also submitted many valuable technical postings, this 
solution is highly unsatisfactory to me. I am looking into a technical 
solution, perhaps involving moderation, but preferably not for the whole 
list since would be too laborious.  More on this soon.

(Please don't make this a thread on the list. Secondly, because this is not a
democratic list anyway, but firstly, because there are so many better things
to discuss that are more related to the RG500, like Scott's initiative
towards Sport Rider Magazine etc.)
