The sisters Lyubimka (1953), Neda (1955) en Mitra (1957)
made their official debut in 1978 at the XI-nt World festival in Cuba, taking the first prize in the competition.
Actually, the sisters have been singing together since their early childhood.
They were born in the village of Pirin, located high in the Pirin mountains, to the south-west of Sophia, bordering
Macedonia and Greece. The repertoire of the sisters includes the most typical features of the musical folklore of the Pirin region: the two-part singing, the rich and versatile meters and rhythms and the expressive Pirin-style performance. The songs of the Bisserov Sisters are highly varied: harvest songs, sedyanka (girls evening work party, also called working-bee songs, hajduk (revolutionary, songs of different religious feasts, mythical, table, domestic family live, love songs, songs with the typical high yells of indefinite pitch. In concert the sisters also perform repertoire of all the parts of Bulgaria, as well as new compositions written by different composers that match their natural style. |
