Our surroundings
The town is surrounded by the villages Heesch, Nistelrode, Geffen, Maren, Lithoyen,
Macharen, Haren, Berghem and Schaijk. In between these places the scenery
is varying a lot, meadows divided by brooks, forrests with
heather and just aggrecultural areas.
Only Berghem, Haren, Macharen and Ravenstein are actually part of the municipality
of Oss. There has been a reorganisation of municipalities by the Dutch
government, since some years now and it is believed
that it will continue for some time. As always a lot of people protested
against their fate and believed that this reorganisation wasn't in their
advantage. Probably they are right, most of the time it's like that.
It's cheaper to govern a cluster of places but more difficult, for contradictory
reasons however large cities are going to be devided into smaller
parts. This is at least for most people not comprehensive at all.
The same counts for one united Europe, maybe atractive for politicians only.
With respect to this on a larger scale however but we are surrounded by a
lot of beautiful countries and let's hope that our children's children
still may enjoy the beauty of it.
