The dictionary summarizes: Now commercialized music from the North
American countryside. Originaly played and sang by immigrants from Europe.
|
These people from Europe were searching for a new life in a new world with unlimited
possibilities.
Apart from being desperate they were hard working people, who fortunately
brought their good nature as well as their culture.
It was, what they actually did at home sit down and make it
themselves as comfortable as possible after work. Try to forget
for a moment while playing the guitar and singing their home music.
It's not difficult to understand where the greater part of Country music
is originating from, if you have ever been in an Irish pub
with live music.
This kind of music is appreciated by lots of people
all over the world, probably not only because of the music, but also they
recognise something of themselves.
Whatever their reasons it was certainly one of mine and I assume one of those
performers. I think one of the greatest was Jim Reeves.
Jim was born on August 20, 1923 in Panola County, Texas and since his
early youth he was fascinated by light music. At the age of five he heard
a record of Jimmie Rogers and he recalled saying later:
"That was the beginning."
That's what I really want to do in my life, he thought, however his
priorities were different, because he was also attracted to baseball.
This brought him in the sports arena, however not for long because an
unfortunate accident ended this dream.
An even greater coincident brought him on stage earlier than he even
could have imagined. One Saterdaynight the great Hank Williams couldn't
perform and Jim was asked to replace him.
He was succesful and his carreer as a singer was reality. "Mexican Joe"
became song of the year.
Even greater songs followed and became famous all over the world.
Songs like:
Four walls
He'll have to go
Adios Amigo
The entire list of his songs is summarized on the Jim Reeves homepage. However a lot more
would have followed if he hadn't crashed in an airplane on July 31, 1964.
Another great countrysinger was Tammy Wynette, who was gifted with a
beautiful voice, who sang as if she was telling her story to the world.
