Rudy's Homepage
Welcome

Hi, my name is Rudy Muller.
I was born 58 years ago in Deventer, a
beautiful and more than 1000 year old
city in the eastern part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
I am a system-programmer by profession, most recently employed by HP-Compaq.
Due to a "right-sizing" operation, I am currently enjoying an early retirement,
however when a appropriate job comes along my path I won't deny it.
The sections shown below more or less imply that I am interrested in
lighthouses and mind-bogglers, but I am also very much interested in nature
(especially birds), geography, cycling, Japanese wood-prints (ukiyo-E),
watertowers, speed-skating, travel stories, photography, science fiction
(Larry Niven), comics (BC by Johnny Hart), ...
Apart from that I like to make (long) walks and I am an enthousiastic runner as well.
On these pages you will find that part of my personal interests, which (1)
may in turn also be of interrest for other people, and (2) are not
present elsewhere on the web.
The homepage for the solitaire game Rangoon was the only topic
for a long time, recently it has got company of a set of pages dedicated to
lighthouse-postcards and one to code-breaker puzzles.

- Rangoon Solitaire

Rangoon is a game of solitaire with all of the 52 cards faced up.
Though all the cards are shown, and in spite of its simple rules
it is a challenge to find the strategy to complete a game.
A freeware program written by me to play this game on a windows-PC is included.

- Cipher Code Puzzles

A cipher code puzzle is a completely filled in crossword, whereas the
alphabetics are replaced by a cipher-code. Each cipher-code corresponds with
just one alphabetic.
Because of several reasons (one was to avoid the fight about who's gonna solve
the puzzle in the monday-morning paper) I decided to write a bit of dynamic html
to assist in solving a ciphercode on the computer. The next logical step was to
create a cipher-code puzzle, which turned out to be just as much fun as solving
them.
The fruits of this pursuit are (cq become) available on my website, and so
may enjoy other people as well. Probably the frequency at which new puzzles
are added in English is less than the one of the Dutch archive, but still.

- Lighthouse Postcards
-

I've been collecting lighthouse postcards for over a decade now,
it turned out to be a comprehensive and fascinating hobby.
The pages here are intended for the exchange of lighthouse-postcards, but you
will also find a set of pages about postcard-terminology
(illustrated by many scans of lighthouse-postcards).
