What are M.A.F.'s roots?    &    What does "MAF" mean?

People at  our  bridge table always comment upon our way of playing bridge. They use to call us, as well as our way playing bridge "maf ".
So the name of our bridge-system was already born even before the system existed.
The dutch word "maf" (or "maffe" as adjective to nouns in certain cases) may be an adjective or an adverb. This word is used when english-speaking people would say "sluggish(ly)", "queer(ly)","dul(ly)", or  "funny(funnily)". As a matter of fact maf is all four jointly, so the translation is also really "maf" indeed.

The acronym M.A.F. stands for two of its characteristic properties:

"MAJORS ALWAYS FIRST"      or:      "MULTI'S ARE FAVORITE"

As you probably have seen, many things can be abbreviated to M.A.F., but despite widespread belief M.A.F. does not mean:

"MAGIC ACOL FUCKER"

I must confess however that this common belief often has been inspiring for us. (keep clicking on the ":  ")
