Who is behind this site?
Let me introduce myself. My name is Hans Vink and I was born in 1952. I am married
have three children (a boy, 1984 and 2 girls, 1986 and 1989). I teach English at a secondary
school in 's-Hertogenbosch (Bois-le-Duc) in The Netherlands.
As a former member of a folk band called Ogham, I came into contact with all kinds of
Scottish music and the singer-songwriter who appealed to me most, was Dougie MacLean.
Mostly because of the atmosphere he creates in his songs.
I play the flute in my spare time. Although I'm no longer involved in performances of any kind,
I regularly play and sing together with people whom I know from the "old days", which gives
me a lot of satisfaction.
There used to be a Dougie MacLean section on this site, but it has been moved and is now maintained
by Niek Stoop, another former member of Ogham.
From my childhood I have always been fascinated by miniature railways. Especially narrow
gauge railways were able to strike a chord. Most of the narrow gauge lay-outs I saw,
beautifully recreated the atmosphere of the old days when the iron horses were still hissing
with steam. I haven't got a lay-out myself. I'm an armchair modeller. I once bought a kit but it
still hasn't been finished. Perhaps after retirement.
